Patient and public involvement
To create a patient-centred organisation, there has to be real involvement and engagement people so that they can genuinely influence decisions.
We have a patient and public involvement strategy to ensure people are involved at all stages of the service development. The Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) team are responsible for the strategy and have an annual work plan to take this forward.

The role of the PPI team includes:
- liaising with HealthWatch organisations around the region
- attending regional BME and minority group meetings
- 'Discovery' interviews with patients and/or their loved ones
- visiting shopping centres and events and talking to the public about the service
- liaising with youth groups and schools with patient-facing staff
- supporting our Community Engagement Group (CEG)
- supporting the ambulance ambassador programme.
You will come across the PPI team stand at events and shopping centres across the region. This is a great opportunity for people to share their experiences and views of the ambulance service with our team, and to ask questions about the treatment, standards and quality.
Also at these events, the team give out information on volunteering with us, working for us, and the 'Message in a bottle' scheme. You can even get your blood pressure checked and find out vital information about preventing stroke and the importance of knowing your blood pressure.
